The Wills Point Tigers and Brownsboro Bears met for the third and final time during District 14-4A play. Unfortunately for the home crowd and the Tigers, game three finished with a similar result as the first two meetings with Brownsboro building up an early lead in an 11-2 win. The Bear offense delivered clutch hit after clutch hit in the first inning against Wills Point, spoiling several tough pitches to build up a 5-0 lead on the Tigers. Things continued to go Brownsboro’s way in the second inning, with the Bears scoring via a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 6-0. Wills Point seemed to find its footing in the bottom of the fourth inning, shaving two runs off their deficit.
The Wills Point Tigers took to the field three times over the course of the past week, splitting district contests against Rains and Canton and topping Athens in non-district play.
Wills Point started things off on the right foot, exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning during a 10-9 win over Emory Rains April 8.
The Tigers, error prone throughout the game, entered the fourth inning trailing Rains 4-0.
Not to be denied, Wills Point scored seven in the inning and then added two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead.
The Wills Point Lady Tigers have found themselves in an offensive slump in recent weeks, struggling to keep pace with the high-powered offensive teams that call District 14-4 home. Unfortunately, that trend continued in games against both Rains and Canton over the past week, with the offense generating just five hits and one run combined in two losses.
Wills Point kept things close with Rains throughout much of their April 8 meeting before a flurry of late offense propelled the Lady Cats to an 11-1 victory. The Lady Tigers notched just three hits in the game while struggling defensively with four errors.
Trey Patterson took home three medals in the JV boys division, finishing third overall in the pole vault, second in the 110 meter hurdles and first overall in the 300 meter hurdles (pictures).

So far this season, the margin between victory and defeat has been razor thin in the majority of District 14-4A baseball games. That trend continued to hold true for the game between Wills Point and Canton March 25, with the former scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a thrilling 5-4 victory over the latter.
Canton got on the scoreboard first against the Tigers, loading the bases in the top of the second before Johnnie Krawietz delivered an RBI single for a 1-0 Eagle lead.
The Eagles got two quick outs on Wills Point in the bottom of the second, but back-to-back singles coupled with a Canton fielding error knotted the score at 1-1.
The mixed doubles team of Kameron McEnturff and Claire Hiler won first overall in their division at the Longview Invitational Tournament March 24, sweeping four consecutive matches against teams from Pine Tree, Kilgore, Whitehouse and Lindale.

March 24, finishing in the top of five in the 21 team field. Individual medalists for the Tigers included Cassidy Wilcoxson finishing second overall in girls singles, Madison Brown winning first overall in the consolation girls singles bracket and the team of Kameron McEnturff and Claire Hiler winning first overall in Mixed B Doubles.

The Wills Point Lady Tigers hit another stumbling block in District 14-4A play last week, falling to 0-3 overall in a 12-1 home loss to the rival Canton Eaglettes March 25.
Canton got off to an impressive start in the contest, plating five runs in the top of the first inning to jump start their five-inning win over the Lady Tigers.
The Eaglettes loaded the bases with no outs in the frame before Sam Neal singled in two with a sharp single to leftfield. Gracie Chavez followed with another single, loading the bases once again to set up an even bigger inning.
The Wills Point Tigers baseball team saw its hopes of beginning District 14-4A play with a win end in extra innings March 16 with a 6-5 loss to the Brownsboro Bears.
Brownsboro capitalized on Tiger wildness in the top of the second inning to take an early lead. The inning began with a Bear batter reaching first via a hit by pitch, and then runners advancing to a second and third situation with a double. Wills Point managed to get a foul out to keep Brownsboro off the scoreboard before a pickoff attempt of the runner on third base led to a breakdown on the ensuing rundown attempt that led directly to Brownsboro’s first run.
