Tigers win two of three during busy week
The Wills Point Tigers took to the field three times over the course of the past week, splitting district contests against Rains and Canton and topping Athens in non-district play.
Wills Point started things off on the right foot, exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning during a 10-9 win over Emory Rains April 8.
The Tigers, error prone throughout the game, entered the fourth inning trailing Rains 4-0.
Not to be denied, Wills Point scored seven in the inning and then added two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead.
Rains came storming back to tie things with five runs in the top of the sixth before Chuck Smith scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a passed ball.
Bryan Mitchell led all Tiger batters at the plate, going a perfect 4/4 with a run scored. Other leading hitters in the win included Hosea Carroll going 2/3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Charles Smith going 2/3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Jarred Sanford going 1/5 with an RBI and a run scored, Seth Wilson going 1/3 with two runs scored, Caden Bennett going 1/2 with 2 RBI, Riley Ramsey going 1/4 with a double and an RBI, Jayton Oldacre going 1/4 with a run scored and Sam Berberich going 1/3 with an RBI.
Wills Point followed up their win with a non-district contest against Athens April 9. Despite trailing most of the game, Wills Point scored five runs in the final two innings to register a 5-2 come from behind win.
Leading hitters for Wills Point included Jarred Sanford going 3/4 with an RBI, Hosea Carroll going 1/2, Caden Bennett going 1/3 with an RBI, Jayton Oldacre going 1/2 with two runs scored and Bryan Mitchell going 1/2 with an RBI and a run scored.
After two games with late game heroics favoring the Tigers, Wills Point received a taste of its own medicine as Canton rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 3-2 win April 12.
Riley Ramsey put the Tigers in front 2-0 in the top of the first inning with a double. Those would be the only runs that Wills Point would tally, as Canton scored one in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the sixth for the win.

After an open date April 15, Wills Point will host Brownsboro April 19 and Van April 22.
