Tigers fall to district leading Brownsboro, 11-2

The Wills Point Tigers and Brownsboro Bears met for the third and final time during District 14-4A play. Unfortunately for the home crowd and the Tigers, game three finished with a similar result as the first two meetings with Brownsboro building up an early lead in an 11-2 win.
The Bear offense delivered clutch hit after clutch hit in the first inning against Wills Point, spoiling several tough pitches to build up a 5-0 lead on the Tigers.
Things continued to go Brownsboro’s way in the second inning, with the Bears scoring via a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 6-0.
Wills Point seemed to find its footing in the bottom of the fourth inning, shaving two runs off their deficit.
Logan Morris began the inning by singling to right, followed by a Hosea Carroll double to left. With runners on second and third, Brownsboro managed to record an out at home on a fielder’s choice to keep Wills Point off the scoreboard.
Riley Ramsey delivered an RBI groundout moments later, and Caden Bennett eventually came home to score Wills Point’s second and final run on a Brownsboro throwing miscue.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, Brownsboro kept the pressure on offensively by scored four runs in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach. The Bears added another insurance run in the top of the seventh, closing out the 11-2 win over Wills Point.
Leading hitters for the Tigers included Riley Ramsey going 1/3 with an RBI, Seth Wilson going 1/3, Jayton Oldacre going 1/3, Hosea Carroll going 1/3 with a double and a run scored, Logan Morris going 1/4 and Jarred Sanford going 1/4.
Hosea Carroll got the start for Wills Point, allowing nine hits and five earned runs in two innings. Tyler James pitched three innings in relief, allowing two earned runs in three innings. Logan Morris pitched the final two innings for Wills Point, allowing three hits and an earned run.
Upcoming games for Wills Point include hosting Van April 22 for Senior Night, and road games against Emory Rains April 26 and Canton April 29.
Current standing in District 14-4A play show Brownsboro in first with an 8-2 record overall, followed by Wills Point and Van tied for second with identical 5-4 records, Canton in fourth with a 4-5 record and Emory Rains in last with a 1-8 record.
