The Wills Point Tigers crossed their final step before the start of District 14-4A play tonight (Jan. 11), traveling to Quinlan Jan. 4 to take on the Ford Panthers.
Sluggish play at both ends of the court during the early stages would go a long way towards determining the game's outcome as Quinlan Ford built up a double-digit lead en route to a 46-27 win over the Tigers.
The Panthers dominated first quarter play, racing out to a 15-6 lead over the Tigers after eight minutes of play.

The Wills Point Lady Tigers have been much improved in the 2018-'19 season, putting together competitive efforts on a weekly basis against tough competition. Wills Point faced its biggest test of the year Jan. 4, playing host to the state-ranked Canton Eaglettes in the District 14-4A opener for both schools.
Despite some solid defense early by both schools, Canton would find its offense touch beginning in the second quarter to pull away for a 46-16 win over the Lady Tigers.

The Wills Point Tigers made their west following the Christmas holiday, hitting the court four times in three days at the 2018 In-N-Out Burger Allen Holiday Invitational Dec. 27-29.
Competing against 15 other schools in the small school varsity bracket, the Tigers finished one of the biggest and most competitive tournaments of the year with a 1-3 record overall.

The Wills Point Lady Tigers wrapped up their run of tournament play for the 2018-'19 season Dec. 27-28, traveling to Kaufman to compete in the Lady Lions Holiday Classic. Wills Point finished the two-day event with a 3-1 record overall, taking home the bronze division championship in the process.
The Lady Tigers went 1-1 overall in pool play, qualifying for the bronze portion of the Kaufman Tournament with a loss to Scurry-Rosser and a 45-40 win over Dallas Christian.

The Wills Point Tigers played their final scheduled home game of 2018 Dec. 14, taking on the Mineola Yellowjackets in non-district play. Offensive woes in the opening frame would go a long way towards the final outcome as Mineola took advantage of a sluggish Wills Point start to cruise to a 52-33 win. Five separate Mineola players hit the score sheet during the opening quarter, allowing the Yellowjackets to establish a 15-2 advantage on the Tigers. Wills Point fared better in the second, getting baskets from Kash Adams, Demontre Hill, Savion Kellum and Jaden Huff keep the game competitive. Heading into halftime, Mineola held a 29-12 lead on the Tigers. Mineola essentially put the game out of reach during the third quarter, limiting the Tigers to just seven points to extend their overall lead to 41-19 with eight minutes to play.
Wills Point standout student-athletes Harleigh Prather, Cade Davis and Hannah Sauceda signed their letters of intent to compete collegiately in athletics beginning in Fall 2019 during a ceremony held Dec. 18 in the high school cafetorium. Prather signed on to do cheerleading/acro and tumbling at East Texas Baptist University, Davis to run track and cross country at Lyon College and Sauceda to run track and cross country at Ottawa University.

The Wills Point Lady Tigers traveled to Nevada Dec. 14, hitting the court for one of their final non-district games of the 2017-'18 season.
Wills Point would finish with one of its most impressive efforts of the season in the contest, seizing command early on their way to a 64-54 win.
Addison Prather had a quarter to remember to open play against the Braves, hitting on five three-pointers in the first eight minutes of play to help the Lady Tigers build a 26-11 lead.

The Wills Point Lady Tigers spent plenty of time on the court last week, competing at the Edgewood Invitational Tournament Dec. 6-7 before playing host to Anna Dec. 11.
Despite some competitive efforts, Wills Point went 1-4 for the week.
The Lady Tigers began their run at the Edgewood Tournament with a 44-23 loss to Sulphur Springs Dec. 6. Wills Point struggled to find its range offensively in the first half, totaling just nine points overall after two quarters of play.

The Wills Point Tigers participated in their second of three scheduled tournaments last weekend, hosting five other teams for the annual Wills Point Tournament Dec. 7-8. The Tigers would go 0-3 overall during the two-day event, dropping games to Whitewright, Seagoville and eventual tournament runner-up Dallas Christian.
Wills Point opened its tournament run just before noon Dec. 7, taking on Whitewright in front of a large home crowd. The Tigers would keep things close throughout, eventually falling 53-45 to the Class 3A Tigers.

The Wills Point Tiger varsity basketball team will get to enjoy the comforts of home on what is expected to be a wet weekend, welcoming five other programs to town Dec. 7-8 for this year's Wills Point Basketball Tournament.
Play will be divided into two distinct section with all six schools scheduled to be in attendance each participating in pool play before hitting the court Dec. 8 to determine the final standings for the two-day event.
