The yearly grind of local election cycles will begin anew next week as the filing period for positions on the Wills Point City Council and Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees opens Jan. 16.
Positions potentially up for grabs this year will include those of Mayor Mark Turner and three council members, as well as two places on the WPISD Board of Trustees. The filing period will run for approximately one month, closing Feb. 15 for both entities.
In anticipation of the new year, we here at the Wills Point Chronicle requested that city of Wills Point leaders reflect on the city's accomplishments in 2018, while also looking ahead at goals for 2019 and beyond.
During its regular meeting Dec. 26, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court heard a report from their appointed committee regarding recommendations made in an audit by the U. S. Department of Labor regarding overtime pay in the VZC Sheriff’s Department.
VZC Human Resource Director Dan Maucieri gave the report to the commissioners’ court on behalf of the committee that was appointed by VZC Judge Don Kirkpatrick Dec. 12.
More than 40 people braved cool temps and crisp winds by participating in Lake Tawakoni State Park's annual First Day Hike event. The guided hike of the Spring Point Trail began shortly after 9 a.m. Jan. 1, and included wildlife spotting, as well as discussions about the park and its history. LTSP hosts events throughout the year, including hiking events, fishing tournaments, triathlons, Boo in the Park (for Halloween) and a Twinkle Tour (for Christmas). Reflecting back on 2018 for Wills Point ISD, it was a year filled with excitement and numerous accomplishments. The district witnessed success in academics, UIL extracurricular and cocurricular activities, and community engagement.
In anticipation of the new year, we here at the Wills Point Chronicle requested that the leaders of Emergency Services District #4 reflect on their accomplishments in 2018, while also looking ahead at goals for 2019 and beyond.
Prospective candidates interested in serving on either the Wills Point City Council or Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees will soon have the opportunity to do so with another election filing period looming just over the horizon.
Election filing for both the city and school is scheduled to get underway beginning January 16, and run through February 15. Positions up for election include four spots on the Wills Point City Council and three places on the Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees.
