WPHS FFA Ag Mechanics

As the FFA show season approaches, the Wills Point High School Ag Mechanics shop is busy at work. This year the Ag Mechanics team is building a 16-foot flatbed trailer and a lamb walker that is powered by an electric motor. Kyle Armstrong’s students are working diligently to produce quality products to take to shows that will hopefully help bring home some blue ribbons!

Sixteen receive All-Region recognition

The Wills Point Tiger Band put together another strong showing in a competitive setting Dec. 3 with 16 students receiving Region 3 ATSSB All-Region Band recognition.

The Wills Point Tiger Band program continued to generate good news and positive momentum into the Christmas break last week, announcing that 16 students from the high school at been selected to the Region 3 ATSSB All-Region Band.

News of the high school band's success comes on the heels of a previous announcement by the junior high program that 35 of its students had been named to the All-Region Symphonic Band, All-Region Concert Band or All-Region Alternates in Ferris Nov. 29.

WPISD receives grant for Kajeet pilot program

The Wills Point ISD continued to make strides in its efforts to expand its technological resources for students and staff, becoming one of 30 school districts across the country to be awarded a Homework Gap Grant from Kajeet.

Wills Point ISD was one of 30 school districts across the country (one of four in Texas) that were awarded the Homework Gap Grant from Kajeet, a company that offers K-12 mobile solutions. The grant is designed to help school districts pilot a mobile connectivity program so students can complete their homework at home, on the go, or on the school bus.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN SWEETS FOR SOLDIERS CAMPAIGN

Dr. Kimberly Neiman presented prizes to Romance Amavizca’s third grade class after they collected more candy than any other class within the Wills Point ISD during this year’s Sweets for Soldiers campaign. In total, students from the Wills Point ISD collected 272.46 lbs. of candy. Kain Quintanilla was also awarded a special prize for making the largest individual donation at 27 lbs.

For the eighth consecutive year, Dr. Kimberly Neiman, DDS of Wills Point and students from the Wills Point ISD combined their efforts to collect candy for the Sweets for Soldiers campaign.

Dr. Neiman stated, “Even with the rainy Halloween we had our best year yet with 272.46 lbs. of candy being donated.”

Winning the overall class challenge this year, which included a prize of Sonic gift cards presented by Dr. Neiman, were students Romance Amavizca’s third grade class at Earnest O. Woods Intermediate School.

Department readies fall musical production

The Wills Point High School Theatre Department is currently deep in the midst of rehearsals, working hard to put the finishing touches for their fall musical production of "The Drowsy Chaperone."

In a press release announcing the show the department stated, “The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

The Wills Point High School Class of 1953 held their 65th reunion at the Lumberyard Café in Edgewood on Saturday, Oct. 13,, 2018.

A total of 28 class members, spouses, and children had signed up to attend, but illness, weather, and distance precluded some from attending.

Fifth grade gifted and talented students in Christina Miller’s science class had to design and create a homemade cooler that would demonstrate relative density, thermal insulation, mass, and solubility after learning about them in class.

The heavens bore ominous dark clouds as unrelenting rain fell from the sky, yet the Wills Point High School Class of 1958 felt an increased feeling of warmness and fellowship as it gathered together Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Wills Point Community Center to celebrate its 60th year since graduation.

The class’s 22 attending members, their nine spouses, and four special guests were personally served great barbeque by Susie Deen Hagler with Hickory Roots BBQ.

WPHS Teacher honored

Abigail Damron was named Teacher of the Month for the high school campus for the month of August. Damron teaches Biology, Principles of Law, Law 1 courses at WPHS. Principal Jeff Russell stated, “Mrs. Damron does an outstanding job of designing lessons and encouraging her students to grow and excel through quality instruction. She sets the bar high and maintains a great team-player attitude while building a strong rapport with the students of WPHS. Mrs. Damron is not afraid to think outside the box and try new ways to lead students to success in the classroom.”

WP ISD Teacher honored

Jennifer Reyonolds was recognized as the WPHS Teacher of the Month for September. Reynolds teaches Health Science classes at WPHS. Principal Jeff Russell stated, “In just two years she has done an incredible job of building a strong student interest in this program. Students have the opportunity to take Principles of Heath Science, Medical Terminology, and Pathophysiology with Mrs. Reynolds. She challenges her students and seeks ways to grow as a teacher, so she can expand on her skills as an educator.”
