Graveside services for Mary Jeanette Lyle, 92, Wills Point, were held Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola, officiated by Russell Harris. Mrs. Lyle passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017.

She was born in Kingman, Kan. May 23, 1925, to the late Clarence E. and Pearl Irene Payne.  Mrs. Lyle was a resident of Crestwood Nursing Home in Wills Point for the last several years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thad Lyle; son, Ben Frank Lyle; two brothers, John Payne and Frank Payne; two sisters, Margaret Gilmore and Edna Dean.

Funeral services for Howard Thomas Coe, 87, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Bro. Ken Hackney officiating. Interment will follow at Dunbar Cemetery near Emory. He passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, in Kaufman.

He was born March 10, 1930, in Kosoma, Okla. to J. A. and Maggie Coe. He was raised in Oklahoma and later moved to Dallas. He married Mary Frances Forbis May 30, 1959, in Kilgore. He was formerly employed by Dallas Aeromotor and later was a self-employed barber in Dallas. He retired in 1995. He lived in Dallas before moving to Wills Point in 1968. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He was a member of The Baptist Men and Chapel of the Lake.

Funeral services for Carl A. Smith, 73, Winnsboro, were held Friday, June 30, 2017, at Beaty Funeral Home with Bro. David Harrell conducting. Interment followed at Hopewell Cemetery. Mr. Smith passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, in Winnsboro.

He was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Lillie, La. to John Smith and Delma Wall Smith. He was a retired executive VP with Monsanto Chemical Company and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He loved restoring BMW micro cars and was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University.

George O. Conn

George O. Conn

1942-2017

George O. Conn, 75, died June 22, 2017, in Cedar Hill with his family by his side.

He was born in Dallas and graduated from Wills Point High School May 1961.

He served in the Army for 34 years, both in the Texas National Guard and National Guard Bureau, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer, followed by civil service. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Brigade and later served in the Bosnian War, followed by years in the US Army Europe and the European Command. He ended his career at the Pentagon with the Joint Chief of Staff in the J1 in 2010. He was a mentor to many other soldiers, both young and old, encouraging them along in their careers. He was a positive influence to all of his colleagues and was an endearing presence in the many places where he worked.

Funeral services for Stephen Douglas McFarland were held Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church in Wills Point under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home. Mr. McFarland passed away June 13, 2017, at University of Tennessee Hospital in Tennessee.

He was born Nov. 2, 1954, to Grady Lee and Mattie Hollister McFarland. He lived his entire life in Wills Point until recently when he moved to Tennessee to be near family. He graduated from Wills Point High School and attended East Texas State University and Henderson County Junior College. He continued his education at El Centro College and Trinity Valley Junior College to earn his nursing degree. He was a registered nurse for thirty-seven years. He worked at Terrell State Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman for most of his career.
