The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. March 26 at the Senior Citizens Building in Canton located at 200 W. Groves St.
This change in location is for the March meeting only.
The program will be “The Runaway Scrape…A Living Portrayal of Dilue Rose Harris” presented by Lou Ann Everett.
Pastor Gene Lindsey and the Calvary Baptist Church invite the public to join them at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 for Passover Supper.
Dan Fogel will be educating the congregation about the actual Seder ritual that is followed now just as it was over 3,300 years ago.
He will explain the ancient symbolic meanings of the ingredients of the supper as well as give insight as to how Jesus was able to break Jewish traditions by saying and doing what He did at that special “Last Passover Supper,” when He declared the “New Covenant” to His disciples. Everyone will partake in the ceremonial dinner just as Jesus did, and enjoy a delicious meal also, organizers said.
Nancy Baker-Dansby is directing the production of “Charlotte’s Web,” written by Joseph Robinette.
It opens at the theatre, 244 N. 4th Street, Wills Point, at 7:30 p.m. April 1 with regular seating performances. Other regular seating performances are at 7:30 on April 2 and 2 p.m. on April 3 and 10. Dinner theatre performances are at 6:30 p.m. April 8 and 9. Limited regular seating may be available at the dinner theatre performances.
A reception will be held following opening night performance. In keeping with the County Fair atmosphere, a bake sale will be held. The stair lift is inoperable.
The Van Spring Fling and Hilliard Easter Egg Hunt will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 26 at the Van Area Historical and Oil Museum.
There will be food, vendors, entertainment, a slide, face painting, homemade ice cream, shaved ice, tours of the Museum and more available.
There will also be a raffle for a quilt handmade by Mildred Carty. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets are available at the Chamber office or the day of the Spring Fling.
The Edgewood ISD school board has accepted the resignation of high school Health Sciences teacher Emily Todoroff.
According to school board officials, the district did not ask Todoroff to resign but has an active, ongoing investigation into allegations of misconduct.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving is looking for volunteers to help with their mission.
The group is an “army of ordinary citizens who’ve become extraordinary activists in saving lives and preventing injuries,” according to information from the group.
MADD East Texas is looking for volunteer speakers in the following areas: Rains, Van Zandt, Wood, Smith, Cherokee, Henderson, Anderson and Navarro counties.
The Easter Bunny has been spotted in his helicopter again doing preliminary fly-bys in preparation for this year’s Helicopter Easter Egg Drop and Egg Hunt at Crossroads Church of Canton.
Community families are invited to participate in this year’s event set for 12:15 p.m. March 27, organizers said.
First will be the Helicopter Egg Drop for ages 3 and up
The Easter Egg Hunt will follow immediately at the playground for children up to age 3.
Community organizers are putting together a program to feed high school kids who don’t have the resources to feed themselves on the weekend.
There is a backpack program for the younger kids. Through the support of the school and different organizations, the program provides nutritious food on the weekend.
“There are several kids at the high school level who are also in need of help and we are in the process of putting together a food pantry to help these kids,” organizers said..
There will be a fundraising ‘Gospel Glory Concert’ at 7 p.m. April 9 at WPHS to help this cause.

Better Business Bureau warns seniors to be wary of these “emergency” scams designed to fool them into thinking that their grandchild is hurt, arrested or stranded, and in need of money.
The Upper Sabine Cattleman’s conference is scheduled for Friday, March 18, at Van Zandt County Farm Bureau located on the corner of Hwy 243 and Hwy 19.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the program will begin at 9 a.m.
The first topic will be “Bull Selection Basics” led by Dr. Jason Banta, associate professor and extension beef cattle specialist.
