Canton, Mabank top Lady Tigers

The Wills Point Lady Tigers faced two tall tasks over the past week of District 13-4A basketball action, taking on the 18th ranked Canton Eaglettes and current district frontrunner Mabank in back-to-back games.
The Lady Tigers dropped each of those two games, falling to Canton by 42 points and 31 points to Mabank.
Canton began a three-game homestand Jan. 20 by welcoming Wills Point. The Eaglettes made it look easy against their in-county foe, building up a huge halftime lead and never looking back in a 68-26 win.
The Eaglettes were sharp on both ends of the court in the first quarter, helping Canton blow the game wide open with a 27-3 over the first eight minutes. Things continued to go Canton’s way in the second as the Eaglette advantage grew to 39-9.

Tigers swat Eagles, fall to Panthers

The Wills Point Tigers took to the court twice over the past week, finishing 1-1 overall with a 12-point road win over the Canton Eagles and a 22-point loss to the Mabank Panthers.
Wills Point and Canton met for the first time during the 2016-’17 season Jan. 20 in a key game for both playoff positioning and bragging rights. Powered by 11 points each from Tyler James and Doug Sheldon, and a suffocating defensive effort in the second half, Wills Point took home a 39-27 win over the Eagles.
Play was hotly contested in each of the first two quarters as the Eagles built a 13-10 lead after eight minutes of play, and maintained a 20-19 lead entering the half.
Third quarter play would turn the tide in Wills Point's favor, however, as the Tigers came out of the half on a 13-3 run to take a 32-23 advantage into the final quarter.
Canton continued to struggle offensively down the stretch, scoring only four points in the final frame during the Tigers' 39-27 win.

Scores against Rockwall included:
-Cassidy Wilcoxson def. Katie Scroeter, 6-0, 6-0; def. Emily Blaze, 8-1

Tigers open District 13-4A play

The Wills Point Tigers began their march to a potential playoff berth during the past week, opening District 13-4A play with home dates against Brownsboro and Emory Rains. Wills Point finished the week with an 1-1 record, dropping a game against the Bears before picking up their first win against the Wildcats.
Wills Point took on Brownsboro Jan. 13, struggling to find offensive rhythm in a 59-32 loss to the Bears.

Lady Tigers fall to Mabank, Van

The Wills Point Lady Tigers will need to make up ground quickly if they plan on reaching the postseason this season, dropping games against both Mabank and Van to fall to 0-2 overall in District 13-4A play.
Wills Point opened district play against Mabank Jan. 7 after a surprise snowfall delayed their original Jan. 6 contest. The Lady Panthers did not let the cold outside impact their offensive firepower in the game, hitting seven first half three-pointers en route to a 57-21 win.
Mabank took advantage of a sluggish Wills Point start in the game, racing out to a 15-0 lead midway through the first quarter. After eight minutes of play, the Lady Panthers held a 20-3 lead over the Lady Tigers.
