Tiger set to square off against Ford

Coach Jonne Reynolds and the Wills Point Tigers will wrap up non-district play this week, traveling to Quinlan to take on the Ford Panthers Jan. 4. Wills Point will travel to Brownsboro Jan. 11 for the District 14-4A opener.

The Wills Point Tigers made their west following the Christmas holiday, hitting the court four times in three days at the 2018 In-N-Out Burger Allen Holiday Invitational Dec. 27-29.

Competing against 15 other schools in the small school varsity bracket, the Tigers finished one of the biggest and most competitive tournaments of the year with a 1-3 record overall. 

Wills Point opened play on a down note, falling victim to a late Crandall comeback in a 46-34 loss to the Pirates. The Tigers led 28-26 entering the fourth quarter against Crandall before a late 20-6 Pirate run to end the game.

The Tigers suffered a second loss to wrap play Dec. 27, falling to a Whitesboro team that opened tournament play with a loss to John Paul II.

Wills Point bounced back Dec. 28, downing Sweetwater 46-33 to push their tournament record to 1-2 overall. The Tiger's tournament run ended the following afternoon wih the Lorena Leopards topping Wills Point 55-36.

The Nolan Catholic Vikings finished as the overall champion in the 3A-4A division by winning games against Lorena, Mabank, Melissa and John Paul II.

The Tigers are scheduled to hit the road this evening (Jan. 4), getting in their final non-district game of the season against the Quinlan Ford Panthers. Ford most recently hit the court Dec. 31, losing 57-43 to future Wills Point opponent Van.

Other upcoming contests for the Tigers will include a road trip to Brownsboro Jan. 11 to open District 14-4A play and a home date against the Mabank Panthers Jan. 15.
