Services for Mollie Cleo Lyle, 93, of Grand Saline, were held Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Interment followed in Salem Cemetery.

 Mrs. Lyle passed away Nov. 10, 2016, in Grand Saline.

He passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in Quinlan.

Dr. John Patrick Sikors

1923-2016

Dr. John Patrick Sikors, 92, of Wills Point, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at his home at Lake Tawakoni surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Grand Rapids, Mich. to John Peter and Marie Barbara Moffitt Sikors.

He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, his wife of 64 years, Shirley Sikors and his brother, Robert Sikors.

Enlisting on what was then known as Armistice Day, now Veteran’s Day, in 1942, Sikors proudly served his country as a Navy Fighter Pilot during World War II.

Betty Laverne Douthitt

1934-2016

Funeral services for Betty Laverne Douthitt, 82, of Quinlan, were held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Pastor James Whittiker officiating.

Interment followed at Creagleville Cemetery near Grand Saline.

Mrs. Douthitt passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 1, 2016, in Greenville.

She was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Wills Point to Charles Ray Payne and Mary Alice Brown Payne. She was raised in Van Zandt County. 

On Nov. 14, 1949, she married Jessie A. Douthitt in Grand Saline.   She was formerly employed by Jordan Healthcare in Greenville, retiring in 2006. She lived in Mesquite prior to moving to Quinlan 25 years ago.  She enjoyed cooking and being with her family.  She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Terri Lucindy Sherman

1952-2016

Memorial services for Terri Lucindy Sherman, 64, Wills Point, were held Oct. 28, 2016, at Edgewood Church of Christ.

She passed away Oct. 25, 2016, in Dallas.

Mark Edward Smith

1961-2016

Funeral services for Mark Edward Smith, 55, of Edgewood, were held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at Goodwill Church of God in Goodwill, La., under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial followed at Redwing Cemetery in Oak Grove, La.

 He passed away Oct. 26, 2016, at his home in Edgewood.

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 4, 1961, in Oak Grove to Thurlan and Lonnie Mae Smith. He was raised in Lake Providence, La. and graduated from Briarfield Academy. He played collegiate baseball and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. 

John Newton Guthrie

1937-2016

Funeral services for John Newton Guthrie, 78, of Edgewood were held Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood.  Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point. Services were under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

John passed away Oct. 30, 2016, at his home in Edgewood.

He was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Dallas to Andrew Olan and Madge Derrell Guthrie. He was raised in Oak Cliff, graduated from Sun Set High School and attended Texas A&M University.

Jerry W. Brookins

1937-2016

Jerry W. Brookins, 79, passed away Oct. 30, 2016, in Tyler.

He was born July 20, 1937, in Terrell to Winfred and Vanzora Teague Brookins.

He lived most of his life in Rockwall where he worked in sales of telecommunications.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Brookins; daughters, Roxanne Keene and Tana Brookins; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
