The Wills Point High School Class of 1958 celebrated its 57th class reunion Oct. 24 with a potluck dinner at the Calloway Lake near Wills Point.  Maston Mitchell provided the facilities that were prepared for the event by Ray and Mary Page.  They also provided a main dish of meatloaf using an old family recipe.  Other class members brought a wide variety of side dishes and desserts.

Donald Wheeler (Class of 1974) and Ray and Mary’s son, Jonathon Branch (Class of 2012), helped in preparing food, setting up the cabin, and serving.  Bill Bateman, Coy Wilson and Ray Page entertained the classes with guitar music that was enjoyed by everyone.

Despite heavy rain, attendance was good with 14 graduating Class of ‘58 members and nine spouses attending.  This year’s reunion was special as the graduating Class of ’59 was invited with five members and one spouse participating.

Allie Rotenberry, a 2011 graduate of Wills Point High School, recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

 Allie is the daughter of Greg and Melanie Rotenberry of Wills Point.

Wills Point High School student Mackenzie Bolt and Adam Shorter recently received Awards of Excellence from the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. In June, both Bolt and Shorter represented WPHS at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston.

Tarleton State University student Hannah Harris accepted a bid to Alpha Gamma Delta Women's Fraternity Sept. 7. 

She is currently in the middle of her pledge ship and will be initiated in November. Alpha Gamma Delta offered bids to 62 women.

Hannah is a freshman at Tarleton State University. She will graduate in 2019 with a degree in kinesiology. Her hometown is Wills Point.

The Epsilon Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta was chartered in 1985, since then Epsilon Upsilon has thrived at Tarleton State University. The Chapter strives to uphold the ideals of the Fraternity they represent and love, including scholarship, leadership, and service and sisterhood. Alpha Gamma Delta is an international women's fraternity that promotes academic excellence, philanthropic giving, ongoing leadership and personal development and above all, a spirit of loving sisterhood.

The Wills Point High School Theatre Department is currently in rehearsal and staging phase of its latest show, a musical production of “Into the Woods” with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine.

“Into The Woods” combines the tales of the Grimm Brother’s “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel” and “Cinderella” as well as a few other characters.

“Can all the characters get their wish and live a happy ending after in the end?” the WP Theater department asks.

Performances are 7 p.m. Nov. 14 and 19 and 2 p.m. Nov. 21.

Student tickets are $5 and adult tickets are $8. 

Wills Point Junior High had more than 100 students meeting and prayring at the pole last week as part of the national “See You at the Pole” event. Oak Grove Baptist Church served the group donuts and juice. See You at the Pole – celebrated Sept. 23 – encourages students who follow the Christian faith to meet around the flag pole before school begins to pray.

The deadline for pre-k through fourth grade students to become a Tiny Tiger has been extended until Thursday, Sept. 17.

As a Tiny Tiger, the child will receive a t-shirt with a varsity football player number on the back.  Player number can be chosen.

Each Tiny Tiger is invited to come down to the field while the varsity players do their pre-game warm up.  Tiny Tigers will lead the varsity players through the Tiger Tunnell at the beginning of the home games, organizers said.
