The Van Zandt County 4-H Food Challenge winners advance to district

4-H Food Challenges teams met at the Texas A&M AgriLife Office in Canton in mid-February to demonstrate their skills to a panel of three judges. 

The two teams were given two separate bags of ingredients and asked to create their own signature dishes.

Teams were given 40 minutes to prepare a dish using the ingredients they were given.  One team received the ingredients to make a skillet lasagna which included Italian sausage. The other team was given the ingredients for a vegetable chicken stir fry.

Texas Woman’s University

Texas Woman’s University has released its dean’s and chancellor’s list for the fall 2015 semester.

Undergraduate students who complete at least 12 graded credit hours and achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average are eligible for the dean’s list.

Those students who have achieved a 4.0 grade point average are named to the chancellor’s list.

Breanna Bellows of Wills Point was named to the dean’s list.

NTHS chapter inducts six in inaugural class

The newly formed Wills Point chapter of the National Technical Honor Society inducted six members, Grace Felan, Emma Adkins, Jordan Adriaenssens, Jordan Graham, Harley Hall and Meghin Webb, in a ceremony Feb. 29.

WPMS exceeds goal in Jump Rope for Heart

Wills Point Middle School entered this year’s Jump Rope for Heart campaign with a goal of raising $3,000 for the American Heart Association. The district more than exceeded that goal, raising $5,250 collectively. Fifth grader Jolie Parker was the highest individual fundraiser, collecting $3,000.

Each year Wills Point Middle School participates in “Jump Rope for Heart”, sponsored by the American Heart Association. This year has been a record year for the middle school campus by surpassing a $3,000 goal and bringing in an astounding $5,250! 

Students that raised $50, earned a Dallas Mavericks ticket. In addition, Jolie will get to be an Anthem Buddy at the Mavericks game on Sunday, March 20th at 3 p.m. Anthem Buddies get to stand in front of the players while the national anthem is sung!

If a student raised $125, they earned two Hurricane Harbor tickets.

Hubbard graduates from Texas Tech University

Jonah Hubbard graduated from Texas Tech University College of Architecture with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, cum laude.

Jonah will continue his education at Texas Tech as he pursues his masters’ degree in architecture. 

He is the son of Tom and Julie Hubbard and brother of Hannah Hubbard of Canton and the grandson of Tom and Charlene Hubbard and Ronnie and Fay Chitty, both of Wills Point.

Spelling Bee

Paola Carreno and Zariah Kellum were the winner and runner-up respectively at this year’s Wills Point Middle School Spelling Bee. The pair will now move on to represent the district when they compete at the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee March 26.
