The AARP Driver Safety Program and the Van Zandt County Library at 317 First Monday Lane in Canton are sponsoring a driver safety class from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
This course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older primarily. The course helps participants learn to compensate for the effects of passing years have on eyesight, hearing, and reflexes.
Most participants will qualify for insurance premium reductions of up to 10 percent of their policy cost for the next three years.
Tractor Supply Company wants your furry friends to get in the holiday spirit. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 15, the Canton Tractor Supply is inviting customers to bring their pets to the store for Pet Photos with Santa. A local photographer will be on site during the event taking holiday-themed photos of Santa's Little Helpers and their owners. The first 25 customers who get a photo taken will also receive a free magnetic picture frame. "Pets are as much our customers as their owners are," said James Bryant, manager of Canton Tractor Supply store. "This is one of many pet-themed events we offer throughout the year, and we enjoy having the entire family at the store." This event is open to the public and will take place at 401 E. Highway 243. The final performance of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol,” will be held at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 7-9 and 2 p.m., Dec. 9 at The Talent Box, a nonprofit community theatre.
The Talent Box is located at the Wills Point Visual and Performing Arts Centre, 105 N. 4th Street, Wills Point.
The University Interscholastic League’s Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A). The award honors the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas based on their team performance in district and state championships.
Using activities and events from the fall semester of the 2018-’19 school year, including marching band, team tennis, cross country and volleyball, Canton and Wills Point are currently tied for 12th among all 4A schools in the state of Texas.

The Wills Point Tiger Band continues to find itself on strong footing for both this year and beyond with standout performances and showings at events at virtually every grade level.
That continued to be the case last week with 35 junior high students being named to the All-Region Symphonic Band, All-Region Concert Band or All-Region Alternates in Ferris Nov. 29.

For the second consecutive year, the Wills Point Historical Society will be hosting a Christmas Tour of Homes. This year’s event will take place Dec. 8, with stops scheduled to include the homes of Janice and Roger Moore, Charles and Jan Rogers, Gerald and Lyn Haney, and Herschel and Linda LyBrand.
Local residents looking for a unique event with a holiday flair will have an opportunity this weekend with the Wills Point Historical announcing its second annual Christmas Tour of Homes event Dec. 8 from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 8.
Stops for the 2018 iteration will include the homes of Janice and Roger Moore, Charles and Jan Rogers, Gerald and Lyn Haney and Herschel and Linda LyBrand.

The Wills Point Chamber of Commerce announced last week that longtime local resident, former business owner and World War II veteran Ted Deen will serve as grand marshal of the 2018 Christmas on the Bricks Christmas Parade Dec. 15.
Deen, 93, was born and raised in Wills Point. “I was born on the farm where I lived a lot of my life,” recalled Deen. “The farm was on FM 47 about a mile and a half out of Wills Point. I rode a horse to school. I miss riding horses today.”
Children from the Methodist Day School recently challenged their friends and family to be a blessing to others by donating items for a blessing box located at the Deen Building (located just south of the railroad tracks on Fourth Street). Organizers behind the year-round effort stated, "The blessing box is for our community. Take what you need, leave what you can. Above all, be blessed!" A second blessing box is located at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (812 N. Wills St.).
The Wills Point Municipal Court released its latest warrant list to the public this week, continuing its longstanding effort to clear the number of outstanding warrants and monies owed for a variety of infractions.

The Wills Point Ladies Club wrapped up the month of November with their second-ever Christmas painting event at the Wills Point Church of Christ.
The Wills Point Ladies Club held its monthly meeting at the Church of Christ last week, taking part in their second Christmas painting event. The WPLC thanked instructor Katrina Griffin from Forney for leading the program, as well as a guest from the community that attended as well.
The club went on to announce its December plans including:
-Cookies with Santa on Dec. 8 at the community center
