The Wills Point ISD, Wills Point PTO and Wills Point Chamber of Commerce are joining forces once again to host the 5th annual “Back to School Fair” for district students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches.
The event will be held at the high school from 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, August 6.
The fair helped to provide school supplies, haircuts, vaccinations, dental supplies and eye screenings to an estimated 293 students in 2013, 339 students in 2014 and 423 students in 2015.
New Release Fellowship Baptist Church in Wills Point will be hosting their annual vacation bible school July 11-15 from 6-8 p.m. daily. Kids will have the opportunity to dive past the surface and go deeper into God's Word with "Submerged."
The VBS program is available to all children grades K - 6.
The theme "Submerged" will challenge children to dive deeper into the word of God at their specific grade level. During "Submerged" children will discover that it's not what's on the surface that matters, but the internal truth that only God can see.
The Talent Box, a nonprofit community theatre, located at 244 N. Fourth St., Wills Point, will hold auditions for parts in the production of ‘Amazing Grace and Country’.

The production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ will open July 8 with regular seating at 7:30 p.m.
Other regular seating performances at the Talent Box, a nonprofit community theatre, 244 N. Fourth St., Wills Point are at 7:30 p.m. July 9 and at 2 p.m. July 10 and 17.
Dinner theatre performances are at 6:30 p.m. July 15 and 16.
Limited seating may be available during the dinner theatre performances. A reception will be held after the opening night performance.
American flags, balloons and smiling faces were just a small part of the local Juneteenth celebration held June 18.

Sweltering temperatures didn’t put a damper on Saturday's local Juneteenth festivities, with crowds gathering for this year's parade and the ensuing celebration.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston with the news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free.
Persons residing throughout the 14 counties of East Texas are invited to participate in a short-term project to improve mobility throughout the region. The affected counties include Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Marion, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood.
The project is an update of the Regionally Coordinated Transportation Plan completed in 2011.
Brookshire Grocery Co. announces the pending acquisition of 25 former Walmart Express stores. The stores will open this summer as the company’s new Spring Market brand. The acquisition is scheduled to close in July.
The name “Spring Market” represents and honors the company’s history which began in 1928 with the opening of its first store on Spring Avenue in Tyler.
The stores will offer hometown convenience in an easy to shop format with a surprising assortment of products at highly competitive prices, company officials said.
The monthly meeting of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Van Zandt County Library at 317 First Monday Ln. in Canton.
The program for the meeting will be a presentation by Tresa Tatyrek.
Tatyrek began her genealogy research in 1997 and now includes client work as well as continuing her own family research. She uses cluster genealogy as her primary research technique along with utilizing technical tools to keep track of her progress.
To preserve the history of Canton, the Canton Main Street Program dedicates a Historical Marker each year in honor of a historically important building or location or a person important in the history of establishing this community.
Edmond A. Wynne, “Father” of the Wynne Community, will be honored with the dedication of an official Texas Historical Marker on Saturday, June 25. The ceremony and unveiling of the Historical Marker will begin at 9 a.m. in the recently restored Hillcrest Cemetery, located on North Trades Day Boulevard
(SH 19), Canton. Granddaughters of Mr. Wynne will participate in the unveiling, accompanied by other Wynne family members.
