Fast start carries Jackets to 52-33 win

The Wills Point Tigers played their final scheduled home game of 2018 Dec. 14, taking on the Mineola Yellowjackets in non-district play. Offensive woes in the opening frame would go a long way towards the final outcome as Mineola took advantage of a sluggish Wills Point start to cruise to a 52-33 win.
Five separate Mineola players hit the score sheet during the opening quarter, allowing the Yellowjackets to establish a 15-2 advantage on the Tigers.
Wills Point fared better in the second, getting baskets from Kash Adams, Demontre Hill, Savion Kellum and Jaden Huff keep the game competitive. Heading into halftime, Mineola held a 29-12 lead on the Tigers.
Mineola essentially put the game out of reach during the third quarter, limiting the Tigers to just seven points to extend their overall lead to 41-19 with eight minutes to play.
Wills Point continued to battle down to the final buzzer, outscoring the Yellowjackets 14-11 down the stretch to cut their final deficit down to 52-33.
Demontre Hill helped lead the Wills Point offense with 18 points overall, followed by Kash Adams and Jaden Huff with four points each, and Zane Coffman, Savion Kellum and Coby Bennett with two points each.
Wills Point was scheduled to take on Eustace Dec. 18 before returning to the court Dec. 27-29 at the Allen Holliday Tournament. Other upcoming dates will include a road game in Quinlan to take on the Ford Panthers Jan. 4, and the district opener in Brownsboro Jan. 11.
