​​​​​​​William Shields 1928-2018

William Johnson Shields, loving husband and father of four daughters, passed away the morning of July 28, 2018, at the age of 89. 

He was born on Oct. 17, 1928, in Canton, and was the third child of Florence Olive Perry and James Marian Shields. 

He graduated from Wills Point High School and attended Texas A&M. He completed the ROTC program and graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and started working for General Electric.

He was called up for active duty with the Air Force in 1952, and while flying combat missions in the Korean War earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Force Air Medal. 

In 1954, he was honorably discharged and returned to work for General Electric. He met and married Johanne Paschall of Wilmington, Del. in March 1955.  

They raised four daughters while living in Texas, Tennessee, Colorado, and Missouri. He and Johanne returned to Dallas in 1980, where he retired from General Electric in 1995.  

In retirement, he volunteered at the Presbyterian Hospital and enjoyed family, skiing, traveling to Florida, and reading in his favorite chair. 

In his last years, he fought the onset of Parkinson. He was lovingly cared for by his wife and the staff at Presbyterian Village North. 

He was preceded in death by his father, James Marian; mother, Florence Olive; brother, James Marian; and sister Margerete. 

He was survived by his wife Johanne; his daughters, Johanna Storm, Carol Graham, Linda Woolley, and Lisa Gormley; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  

A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2018, at the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to Presbyterian Village North, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, or to the Parkinson organization at www.parkinson.org.
