Funeral Services for Rayford Silas Sanford, Jr, 95, of Wills Point, formerly of Maydelle, were held Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Maydelle under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Mr. Sanford passed away May 4, 2017, at his home in Wills Point.
He was born Jan. 15, 1922, to Rayford Sr. and Nora Sanford. He graduated from Sam Houston State University and served in the Navy during World War II; he was a teacher, basketball coach and principal of Centerville High School. He retired from ARCO as a geophysicist and Vice President of seismograph in 1985. He lived in Irving and attended Oak View Baptist Church until 5 years ago, moving to Wills Point to be closer to family. He died a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by anyone that he ever came in contact with.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jessie Webb, Mildred Roach and husband, JT, all of Maydelle; brother-in-law Shelton Perkins; best lifelong friends, Kenneth, Jerald and Nat Roach; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lindy Sanford; four children, Mike and Connie Sanford of Wills Point, Pat and Tammy Sanford of Paradise, Cindi and Clifford Howard of Lewisville, Kelly and Julie Sanford of Wills Point; his sister, Joann Perkins of Arlington; grandchildren; Jeremy and Jayme Sanford, Jenni and Kyle Crayton, Jacqueline and Randy Miller, Joshua and Margot Sanford, Colton, Caylie, and Colbi Howard, Hunter, Jarred, and Jacob Sanford; great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Tyler, Sadie, and Emma Sanford, Kyleigh, Alli, Brylee, and Brody Crayton, Kailyn and Kinsler Miller and Blake and Addyson Sanford. Ray had a church family in Wills Point that will dearly miss him as well.
