Senior Doug Sheldon finished with 12 points against Van, six in both the first and second half of play.

The Wills Point Tigers strengthened their grip on a potential spot in the 4A playoffs last week, defending their home court with a 55-48 win during their first matchup of the season against the visiting Van Vandals.
Offense was hard to come by in the first quarter with turnovers and missed shots by both teams resulting in a 6-6 tie after eight minutes of play.
Wills Point looked to take a narrow lead into the half but Austin Hulsey delivered a buzzer beating jumper from the free throw line to keep the score tied at 17-17.
Not to be outdone, Wills Point turned the tables at the end of the third quarter as Matt Mayfield pulled off the same trick from just inside half court to give the Tigers a 35-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
