Tiger Band places fourth at State

The Wills Point Tiger Band traveled to the Alamodome Nov. 6-8, competing in the UIL State Marching Contest in San Antonio. Wills Point finished fourth overall out of 23 schools, registering the program’s best finish since coming in second back in 2006.
The Wills Point Tiger Band program has been a familiar face at the UIL State Marching Contest, qualifying for and competing against the best bands in the state of Texas in each of the past seven State cycles.
Under the direction of John Young, the Tiger Band finished fifth overall in 2004, a program best second overall in 2006, seventh in 2008, 2010 and 2012 and ninth overall among all 4A bands in the state of Texas back in 2014.
The Tiger Band returned to San Antonio Nov. 5-7, competing once again against a group of 22 other talented 4A bands spanning the state. Wills Point finished fourth overall in the contest, putting together their top finish since 2006.
During the prelims, Wills Point placed fourth overall among all schools with a combined score of 29 points from the panel of five judges.
North Lamar finished first with a composite score of 7, followed by Argyle with 12, Princeton with 16, Wills Point, Kennedale with 30, Springtown with 35, Hidalgo with 37, Fredericksburg with 45, Spring Hill with 50 and China Springs with 59.
The top 10 schools then advanced to the finals, performing once again for the panel of five judges. Once again, Wills Point placed fourth overall, behind North Lamar, Argyle and Princeton, and ahead of Spring Hill, China Spring, Fredericksburg, Kennedale, Springtown and Hidalgo.
