Fly-in scheduled for landing at VZCRA
The Van Zandt County Regional Airport will be the place to be for the local community Oct. 8, with plenty of festivities planned for the first public fly-in event since 2013.
Announced plans for the 2016 VZCRA Fly-In, which is slated to run from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., include a Cruisin’ on Wheels and Wings Classic Car Show, kids activities including a bounce house and a 75th anniversary celebration of the Civil Air Patrol.
According to a history published on the official CAP website, “…the Civil Air Patrol was born one week prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Thousands of volunteer members answered America's call to national service and sacrifice by accepting and performing critical wartime missions. Assigned to the War Department under the jurisdiction of the Army Air Corps, the contributions of Civil Air Patrol, including logging more than 500,000 flying hours, sinking two enemy submarines, and saving hundreds of crash victims during World War II, are well documented.
