Planning underway for 5th annual Back to School Fair
The Wills Point ISD, Wills Point PTO and Wills Point Chamber of Commerce are joining forces once again to host the 5th annual “Back to School Fair” for district students who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches.
The event will be held at the high school from 9 a.m. – noon on Saturday, August 6.
The fair helped to provide school supplies, haircuts, vaccinations, dental supplies and eye screenings to an estimated 293 students in 2013, 339 students in 2014 and 423 students in 2015.
In a letter announcing the fair, organizers noted “Each year we strive to improve the efficiency and quality of the Fair and have made two notable changes this year: 1) We scaled down the school supply lists given by each to what we consider a ‘starter kit’ of school supplies rather than try to meet exact quantities requested so we can reach more students, and 2) We have put into place a process to verify student enrollment in our district and only one bag of supplies will be given to each student once verified.”
The letter goes on to state, “Our continued goal is to help provide school supplies (Pre-K thru 12th) for the new year for each student that participates. This year we want to provide 50 complete sets this year for grades Pre-K thru 6 and 100 sets for JH and HS, collectively. Amanda Johns and Carol Miracle are working with local churches, civic organizations and businesses to collect supplies from now until the event.”
A Facebook page has also been set up (Wills Point Back to School Fair) that will have an updated list so that people wishing to donate.
“If your group is interested in donating school supplies (school supply lists and summary sheet enclosed) or making a monetary donation to assist in purchasing supplies for this event, please contact Amanda or Carol as follows:
-Amanda Johns, waytogoflo@sbcglobal.net, 214-923-1612
-Carol Miracle, carol.miracle@yahoo.com, 214-202-4173
“Monetary donations will be accepted and placed into an account at Citizens National Bank. Checks should be made payable to “WP PTO - Back to School Fair”. Supply donations will be collected and stored at the high school library until the fair. Supplies can be dropped off at either the high school or administration office from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday-Thursday until the fair. Also, we are asking that your donations be dropped off or given to us no later than July 31.
“We hope you will choose to join us in support of this year's fair. Thank you to those that participated previously, and we look forward to working with you again. Together we can make this year's event even more successful.”
