Afterwards, they lived in Chicago and Hometown, Ill., where she worked for United Airlines for several years.
After moving from Lubbock to Houston, she became an Avon representative, a part-time occupation she enjoyed for almost 40 years. During this time, she also worked for several years at Memorial Junior High School. She was a longtime member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Houston.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 45 years, Hulen Wayne Howell.
She is survived by her beloved family; daughter, Brenda and Hank Slawson of Allen; son, Wayne and Kimberly Howell of Houston and four grandchildren, Kelly Slawson and husband, David Findura of Wylie, Cody Slawson of Allen, and Caleb and Weston Howell of Houston.
She was fondly called “Shirley Belle,”, “Mumps,”,or “Mumpy,” and she so dearly loved her family and was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.
Her children will miss their beautiful, loving, funny, and kind mother but are most grateful for her 82 years on earth, and they rejoice that she is in God’s loving presence.
