​​​​​​​Peggy Carnes 1930-2018

Funeral services for Peggy Lou Swepston Carnes, 88, of Fruitvale, formerly of Wills Point, were held Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Grand Saline with Rev. Eddie Paul Stanley and Rev. Suzann Ferguson officiating.

Interment followed at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point. She passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 15, 2018, in Tyler.

She was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Dallas, the daughter of Herschel Charlie Swepston and Cleo Alma Vance Swepston. 

She was raised in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.  On June 26, 1950, she married James Corbit Carnes, Jr. in Wills Point. 

She was formerly employed by Malouf Manufacturing Company in Wills Point for 35 years, Real Deal Appliance in Canton for 12 years and retired in 2015 from Outdoor Heritage in Canton. 

In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, painting, ceramics, gardening and canning. She loved her family very much, especially helping to raise her grandchildren. 

She lived in Wills Point prior to moving to Fruitvale over 40 years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wills Point.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Cleo Swepston and a grandson, Johnathan Mark Carnes.

She is survived by her husband, James Corbit Carnes Jr., of Fruitvale; two sons, Melvin Ray Carnes and wife, Debera, of Grand Saline and Roy Wayne Carnes and wife, Heather, of Tyler; four grandchildren, Jeremiah Carnes and wife, Eva, of Grand Saline,     Cara Jordan and husband, Casey, of Grand Saline, Eva Grace Carnes and Eliza Carnes, both of Tyler; five great-grandchildren, Cruz Corbit Jordan, Shayne Carnes,        Josh Manshack and wife, Madi, Caleb Manshack and Jacob Minze; great-great-grandchildren, Kollins and Kendall Manshack; sister, Charlotte Parks, of Midway; two nieces, Mary Thompson and Teena Mumphrey and family; nephew, David Savage and family; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Flemister and Janice Jungjohann and family; two brothers-in-law, Robert Sneed and Mike Jungjohann and family; and other relatives including Peggy Ivy Brumit.

Pallbearers were Andy Gibson, Jake Minze, Josh Manshack, Caleb Manshack, James Flemister and Jaron Cude.

Honorary pallbearers were Brooks Flemister, Kipp Wingo, Terry Jordon, Tim Thompson and David Savage
