Runners compete at Regional Meet

Runners representing Canton, Van and Wills Point made their way west Oct. 22, competing at this year’s UIL 4A Region II Championship Meet at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas.

Celina took the team championship in the varsity girls division with 111 points, followed by Anna in second with 129 points and Sunnyvale in third with 130 points. Van posted the best local finish, coming in 13th with 311 points and Wills Point placed 14th with 314 points.

Individual results in the varsity girls race included:

-Canton: Madeline Null, 18th, 12:50.64; Darby Pruitt, 58th, 13:41.40

-Van: Macie Reynolds, 23rd, 12:55.90; Isabel Romero, 69th, 13:49.31; Brooklyn Allison, 96th, 14:16.38; Jessica Swoape, 115th, 14:54.68; Carlee Dillon, 130th, 15:26.26; Mariana Romero, 154th, 17:23.31

-Wills Point: Brisa Carillo, 56th, 13:35.25; Kimberlie Lumsden, 94th, 14:12.65; Jaylee Phillips, 99th, 14:20.63; Kaylee King, 100th, 14:21.57; Hannah Sauceda, 106th, 14:29.46

River Oaks Castleberry took first place overall in the varsity boys division with 90 points, followed by Melissa with 93 points and Sanger with 111 points. Wills Point placed eighth overall out of 24 total teams with 264 points and Canton finished 10th with 287 points.

Coach Bobbie Lester stated, "This was an unforgettable season winning district in all 4 divisions. I hate the season came to an end but I couldn't be more proud of everything these kids have accomplished. We lost 10 seniors in the program and they will be hard to replace but I do feel like great things will be happening in the upcoming years for WPCC."
