Mattie Spencer 1941-2018
A Celebration of Life for Mattie Louise Maroney Spencer, 77, of Wills Point was held Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at the Wills Point Church of Christ with Bro. Carol Baptiste officiating. Internment followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Wills Point under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home.
She was born on May 2, 1941, in Kilgore, the daughter of May Donnie Tolbert Maroney and William Maroney.
She had nine siblings whom she absolutely adored. She resided in Wills Point most of her adult life. She came to Christ at an early age at the former Eastside Church of Christ.
Until her death on Oct. 16, 2018, she was a faithful member of East Oak Street Church of Christ in Edgewood.
She received her formal education at Cartwright School in Wills Point. After graduating from Cartwright in 1961, she attended Eastfield College, in Mesquite.
Although she worked as an activity director in nursing homes, as well as an aide for the elderly most of her career, her passion was with children in the foster care system.
She was married to the love of her life, Jimmy Spencer, on June 20, 1965. To this union, five children were adopted and over 60 kids fostered. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, fishing, shopping, cooking, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, May Donnie and William Maroney, Sr.; husband, Jimmy Spencer, who passed on Nov. 4, 1994; three sisters, Mary Maroney, Polly Maroney Wilson, and Leomia Maroney Alexander; and three brothers, Amile Maroney, William Maroney, Jr., and George Maroney.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Jermaine Spencer (LaTasha), Josef Spencer Hudson (Landrum), Clarressa Michelle Spencer, Precious Lee’Ann Spencer, and Chance David Spencer; honorary children, Tiffany Ford, Mack Ford, Damian Ford, Brenda Ford, Princess Murray, and Earnest Birdine; grandchildren, Jermaine Spencer, Jr., Jasmine Spencer, Brenton Lane, Christian Kellum, Matthew Spencer, Michael Spencer, and Spencer Hudson; sisters, Addie Mae Maroney Spencer, Annie Belle Maroney Antia, and Emma Pearl Maroney Elie; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
