Weather leads to Fly-In’s cancellation
Entering last week organizers behind the annual Van Zandt County Regional Airport Fly-In and Open House were cautiously optimistic, hoping that Mother Nature would cooperate in the form of comfortable temperatures and dry weather Oct. 13.
That optimism turned to disappointment mid-week as the initially forecast changed dramatically to include an increased chance of heavy rain and potentially dangerous storms heading into the weekend.
Ultimately, organizers made the difficult decision Oct. 10 to cancel this year’s event with an eye on having the Fly-In and Open House return in 2019.
In a Facebook post organizers stated, “…due to expected rain both Friday and Saturday. A final decision was made today after reviewing many forecasts, with considerations for both aircraft and classic vehicles. We hope you will make plans to join us in 2019.”
