Declarations highlight monthly agenda

The Wills Point City Council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting Oct. 9, discussing a series of bookkeeping items that included a series of declarations as well updates and revisions to current policies.

Following the public comment and recognitions portion of the agenda, council members heard and approved three consecutive proclamations including declaring Oct. 13 Aviation Day at Van Zandt County Regional Airport, Nov. 5-9 Municipal Court Week and Nov. 11 Veteran’s Day.

The proclamation declaring Oct. 13 Aviation Day at the airport was made two days prior to expected rainshowers caused the cancellation of this year’s VZCRA Fly-In and Open House event.

Business continued with the council updating several policies before revisiting an amended lease agreement between the city of Wills Point and Van Zandt County Emergency Services District #4 for the use of the fire station located on S. Fourth St.

Discussion of the item was originally placed on the September agenda but subsequently tabled per a request from the VZC ESD#4 Board. City administrator Pam Pearson explained that the original agreement between the city and ESD#4 orginally included pieces of equipment that had been acquired by the emergency services district.

The newly amended agreement, for a length of three years with an annual renewal clause that triggers yearly, was approved unanimously by the council as presented.
