Coy Barrett 1922-2018

 

Funeral services for Coy Lavughn Barrett, 95, of Edgewood, were held Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. Burial followed at Small Cemetery.

Coy Lavughn Barrett was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Fruitvale to parents, Ed Barrett and Rettie Pickens Barrett. He was raised in Fruitvale and the Small community in Edgewood.

He married Ruby Jones on Dec. 5, 1942, in Terrell and they were married for 64 years. He was a World War II veteran, farmer and worked at Ford Motor Company for 20 years.

He then worked for Trane Manufacturing Company in Tyler before retiring in 1987. He was known in East Texas for his fiddle playing and played with many well-known bands. Later in life, he enjoyed playing for many churches.  

He is preceded in death by parents, Ed and Rettie Barrett; wife, Ruby Jones Barrett; three brothers, R.L. Barrett, Leslie Barrett and Lawrence (Red) Barrett; sister, Maxine James; two infant sisters; and one grandson, Brian Goode.

He is survived by son, Johnny Barrett and wife, Glenda, of Edgewood; daughters, Jennie Barrett of Dallas and Cathy Hoegger and husband, James, of Edgewood; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends throughout the area; and a special friend, Doris Prestidge.

Coy lived 95 years while driving his pick up to the very end.
