The Wills Point-Edgewood football game, which has been set for Saturday, October 21, instead of Friday night as previously scheduled has been designated as the homecoming game for Wills Point High School. It will also be Edgewood’s homecoming game. A football sweetheart will be chosen by members of the football squad and will be crowned at the half-time ceremonies. Runners-up for sweetheart will also be recognized.
H.M. Hooks, superintendent of the Wills Point Schools has announced that classes will not be held Tuesday Oct. 17. School will be dismissed the entire day for East Texas Day at the State Fair of Texas. Miss Gleith James will represent Wills Point in the activities at the Cotton Bowl that night and other events planned for the queens in the East Texas area. She will be, escorted by Jimmy Carter.
Greater Wills Point United Fund drive will kick off Monday morning Oct. 16, with a coffee in the fellowship hall of the Methodist Church at 10 o’clock for all workers and directors. S.A. Sparks, drive chairman of the colored area stated that his, workers will, have their kickoff coffee Monday night.
Mayor Homer Read stated today that the city is presently engaged in the process of laying approximately 1000 feet of six-inch, water line in the Y area of the city. The line is laid down highway 80 to the new addition with T’s being-installed along the route. Also included is a fire plug which is being installed on the highway in this area.
Dot’s Café on East Highway 80, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Freeman, received considerable damage by fire, water and smoke Thursday morning. The fire started in the kitchen but spread to the entire area of the café before it was brought under control, by the Wills Point volunteer fire department.
