According to a story published in the Friday, Sept. 29, issue of the Terrell Daily Tribune, District Judge A.A. Dawson has submitted his resignation to Gov. Price Daniel. Judge Dawson told the Tribune he had been attempting to resign for several months. He is eligible to retire on half of his annual salary of $12,000 per year. The district judge said his asthma had become worse since he returned to Canton from El Paso where he had been staying for several weeks. He was reported in route to Arizona today.

Red Cross workers of Van Zandt County gathered at a Canton café Monday night, Oct. 2, for dinner and to discuss the recent disaster created by Hurricane Carla and to map out plans for the 1962 Red Cross annual drive. Mrs. Henrietta Darnell, Van Zandt County Chairman gave a report on the money collected for the Carla emergency. She said the county quota was set at $986 and to date $961 has been collected. She was elated over the response received from Van Zandt County to date.

A club was formed Tuesday night to support, encourage, maintain and promote all school and youth athletic activities in the City of Wills Point. The club to be known as the Athletic Club of Wills Point was organized at a meeting in the school gym, at which, a number of parents of school athletes and interested persons were in attendance. Coaches Buster Johnson, Jerry Fausett and Dewayne Carter met with the club and were introduced to the club. Coach Johnson presided over the meeting until the election of the president. W.T. Russell was elected president of the club, and Tommy Provence was selected vice-president. Other officers were Mrs. Russell Laney, secretary, and Mrs. Bill Morgan, treasurer. Activities for the club to sponsor were discussed, but nothing definite formulated. (See newspaper for complete article.)
