Funeral services for Betty Lou Hooks, 83, Edgewood, were held Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church in Edgewood under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Hooks passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017.

She was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Tennessee to James Miller and Alice Young Miller. She was raised in Wills Point where she graduated from high school. She married Jerry Hooks July 21, 1957. They made Edgewood their home and raised three daughters. She was a member of Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church. She was heavily involved in the community. She started Edgewood Elementary Volunteer Reading Program, was PTO president of the Edgewood Elementary School and for many years she delivered Meals on Wheels for the Edgewood area. She volunteered in the church office and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, as well as sang in the church choir. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was an avid Edgewood Bulldog supporter in all sports.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Hooks in 1999; one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Chadwick and husband, Lonnie of Edgewood, Lisa Eggleston and husband, Donnie of Holly Lake Ranch, and Mary Alice King and husband, Clay of Edgewood; six grandchildren, Daniel Foster, Jeremy Eggleston, Ashley Chadwick, Justin King, Emily Wuichet and Calvin King; and three great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to Jerika Belyeu, Jackie Fitzgerald, Gina White, Bonnie Foster, Ashley Fancher and Ashley Chadwick for how they lovingly cared for our mom.
