Norma Helm Jandrew

1933-2017

Funeral services for Norma Helm Jandrew, of Terrell, were held Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel.

Interment followed at Oakland Memorial Park.

She passed away peacefully surrounded by family April 9, 2017.

She was born Nov. 16, 1933, in the College Mound area of Kaufman County to Ray L. and Bell Zora Lawson Helm. She lived, loved and worked in Terrell her entire life; and the richness of her memory is found in both her family and her involvement in so many organizations.

She attended Terrell schools where she met Charles Jandrew. They were married Aug. 22, 1954.

She worked with the Soil and Water Conservation District, American National Bank and then Terrell ISD. While her children were growing up, she was very involved in their events such as Girl Scouts where she served as a leader and also with their sports activities. After 29 years with TISD, she retired to spend more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a tireless caretaker to them while they were young and when her babies were old enough to attend day care, she followed right along with them and worked there too.

She had a servant’s heart and when not serving her family, she could always be found serving God’s people. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels as well as with numerous ministries, as church secretary and nursery worker at First Presbyterian of Terrell where she was a longtime and devoted member.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will be missed by everyone who was a part of her life.

She leaves to cherish her legacy her beloved husband of 62 years, Charles Jandrew of Wills Point formerly of Terrell; children; Julie Ponder and husband, Tom of Terrell, Bill Jandrew and wife, Hope of Wills Point, Michelle Dennehy and husband, Jim of Terrell, Mary Westbrook and husband, Monty of Terrell; grandchildren, Whitney Lane, Charlene Ashford, Jon Ponder, Justin, Adam and Logan Jandrew, Steven Wallace, Leah Cranford, Amber Rubner, Allison Harris, Michael Dennehy, Joshua and Colten Patton; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Davy Joe Helm and wife, Susie of Trinidad and Ray E. Helm and wife, Dee, of Terrell; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

For those wishing and to honor her life of giving to others, memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels of Terrell, https://nohungrysenior.org , or to First Presbyterian Church of Terrell, 834 Griffith Ave, Terrell, 75160 or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
