A number of events to interest the entire family is in store for those attending the 15th annual Wills Point Chapter FFA Livestock and Poultry Show Saturday. The show, sponsored by the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce will be held in the W.T. Russell cotton warehouse on South Fourth Street. The chamber has offered $150 in prize and expense money for the show.
Open house in the Wills Point schools last week was well attended with more than 700 patrons attending according to R.M. Hooks, superintendent. It was the largest crowd we’ve ever had for open house during public schools week and we’re proud so many parents and patrons took an interest in the schools. Mr. Hooks stated.
W.J. McCaffity of the Dawson community is being honored on his 93rd birthday Sunday, March 19, by his children with open house. Relatives will gather for dinner and open house from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Mr. McCaffity during the afternoon.
The Mobilgas Economy Run, a nationally sponsored gas economy contest came through Wills Point Tuesday morning, The fleet of 64, 1961 cars pushed toward Little Rock after leaving Dallas on Tuesday. The run originates in Los Angeles each year and is routed as to give the cars test on gas consumption under normal driving conditions in the various areas and climates, A manual transmission equipped Ford Falcon driven by Dan “Termite” Jones still held the lead at Dallas with a record 33.62 miles per gallon. The winners were to be announced at Soldier Field in Chicago on Thursday.
