Cousins win King Kat at Lake Tawakoni

Texas, Oklahoma team catch weighs 168.46 pounds
A Texas-Oklahoma team of cousins weighed a five-fish catch at 168.46 pounds to win Saturday’s ninth annual Cabela’s King Kat Tournament at Lake Tawakoni. The big fish of the contest weighed 56.46 pounds.
Catfishermen competed from six different states for the $7,750 in cash and prizes and an opportunity to qualify for the 2017 Cabela’s King Kat Northern and Southern Championships.
John Allen of Detroit, Tex., and Matthew Allen of Barnsdall, Okla., took the top prize of $3,200. The cousins have second-, third- and fifth-places in the past.
The team fished south of the Two-Mile Bridge, targeting fish in standing timber in 38 to 40 feet of water using cut and live perch for bait. The team stated that the larger cut perch worked better for the big fish.
Team Allen drifted all day and said that the wind definitely helped the bite. In two days of pre-fishing, the team only had one fish; however, they were able to land 10 fish on tournament day.
In second place was the team of Kevin Parks of LeRoy, Kan., and Ryan Gnagy of Tecumseh, Kan., with a five-fish stringer weighing 147.56 pounds. The placing was good for $1,500.
