Mrs. Ellis passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 10, 2017, at her home in Wills Point after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Wills Point, the daughter of Hubert Thomas Horton and Catherine Arlou Slaughter Horton. She welcomed a little sister in 1936, Bennie Ann Horton. Their father died in 1943, of leukemia. In 1946, they were blessed with a new dad when Arlou married William Bruce Wilemon. He loved and cared for them as his own. She graduated from Wills Point High School in 1951. She moved to Dallas and went to work for Southwestern Bell in the billing department for a year. She wanted a better job so she attended Rutherford Metropolitan Business School. She then worked for Ford Motor Company till 1958. After a long courtship with Laurel Glynn Ellis, they married on Oct. 5, 1956, with Corky Boyd officiating. June and Glynn made Wills Point their home and were blessed with four children, William Gregory, Catherine DeAnn, Judith Carol and Kimberly June. Besides being the role of a wife and mother, she was instrumental in establishing Fairway Shoe Store in Wills Point in 1969. She managed the store while Glynn continued as a traveling shoe salesman. June and Glynn worked side by side and made it a success. She touched many lives over the years while working at the store and teaching Bible class at the Wills Point Church of Christ, where she was a life-long member. She was a woman of faith, love, compassion and honesty, with a rare gift of kindness. She had a gentle spirit that endeared her to family, friends and caretakers. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, music, movies and art. She was happiest spending time with friends, family and her beloved pets. Her intelligence, wit and unconditional love will be missed.
