Council receives sewer, street project updates

The city of Wills Point has had plenty of company among other area cities, with road and sewer woes stemming from decades old infrastructure rearing their head more and more in recent years.
City leaders held several emergency meetings with the span of three weeks in November 2016 to address needed repairs to key sewer lines servicing the eastern portion of the city.
As part of the council’s January 2017 agenda, city leaders were presented with the latest update on how much various road and sewer projects have cost to date, as well as when residents can expect to see future repairs take place.
City administrator Pam Pearson explained, “As you know, the sewer portion of Highway 80, Hatch and O’Neal has been completed. We still have not gone from O’Neal to the Veteran’s Park. Keep that in the back of your mind. We’ve spent a little over $192,000 on that project to date. From O’Neal to Hatch is another $87,000. That could come up. That has not only blown our budget during the first month of our fiscal year, it has also used our contingency fund that was remaining for 2016 and from our 2017 budget. We are steadily working on that.”
