District leaders look back on 2016
In anticipation of the new year, we here at the Wills Point Chronicle requested that leaders within the WPISD look back on the district's accomplishments in 2016, and ahead at goals for 2017 and beyond.
Last year began with a change in district leadership for the Wills Point Independent School District. Scott Caloss joined WPISD as superintendent in early January and has moved the district forward on several initiatives. The most successful of these initiatives has been gaining voter approval during a Tax Ratification Election that has enabled the school district to capture and additional $500,000 thousand dollars each year without raising the district’s overall tax rate.
WPISD went out for a $42.5 million bond to address facility needs. Although the bond failed by a narrow margin, the district remains positive in its efforts to improve the learning conditions for its students and staff.
Administrative team changes include the addition of Barbie McMath, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, and every principal at all five district campuses. The district has also introduced several new resources and additional technology to improve instruction and student engagement. WPISD recently entered into a partnership with Comal ISD to increase curriculum resources and instructional strategies.
