Friday, January 6, 1961:

  “The conversion to dial system for telephone subscribers in Wills Point will become a reality one minute after 1 a.m. Sunday, January 8.  Wills Point is the largest town in Southwestern Bell Telephone Company’s north Texas district, which has not already been converted to the modern system of telephone service. When Wills Point switches to the dial telephone service Sunday every number in the city (approximately 1,100) will be changed. Emergency numbers are most important. It would be wise to write all emergency numbers and fasten them near the phone for emergency use. To report a fire dial TR3-2222.” (See newspaper for complete article.)
    “At a solemn formal ceremony in the U.S. District Courtroom in Tyler Joe Tunnell, took the oath of office Saturday morning as the new U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas. Approximately 40 persons-- Tunnell’s family, members of the bar and other friends of the appointee, were in attendance. Among the most interested spectators at Saturday’s swearing in were Tunnell’s wife, who is the former Ruth Ann Savage of Grand Saline; their daughter Jo Ann 9; and their sons, Thomas Rusk, 7 and John Wesley, 5.  The new U.S. attorney for the district was born June 4, 1918, on a farm midway between Van and Grand Saline, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.E.
