A celebration of life for Sylvia Jean Hughes, formerly of Wills Point, was held May 27, 2016, her 81st birthday, at Hiett’s Lybrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery.

Mrs. Hughes passed away May 23, 2016, in Mineola.

She was born May 27, 1935, in Little Rock, Ark. to Terry Younts Sr. and Blanche Autry. She was raised in North Little Rock and graduated high school in 1953. She married Darrell Hughes, Oct. 16, 1957, in Dallas. They made their home in Vet Village, a community in Dallas. She was a homemaker and also worked as a typist for Legal Security before retiring in 1995. Sylvia and Darrell raised three children in Garland before moving to Wills Point where they raised their fourth child. She attended Russell Memorial Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Edgewood. After her husband passed away, she moved to Royse City where she attended Fellowship of First Baptist Church and enjoyed being with friends and playing Bridge. She later moved to be near her daughter and lived in several towns in East Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darrell Hughes Sr.; sisters, Frances Walker, Lucille Rhodes, and Priscilla Hogan; brothers, Fred, Jake, and Terry Younts.

She is survived by her sons, Darrell Hughes Jr, of Mesquite, and Larry Hughes, of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughters, Sherry Hughes of Sulphur Springs, and Rebecca Alexander and husband, Stephen of Hawkins; grandchildren, Tyler Hancock and wife, Astin, Ryan Hancock, Cameron Hughes, Zach, Josh and Jacob Alexander and Gavyn and Gracie Hughes; great-granddaughter, Mia Hancock.
