Funeral services for Jean Headen, 90, of Wills Point, were held Dec. 9, 2016, at the Wills Point Church of Christ with Mr. Russell Harris officiating. Interment followed at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
Mrs. Headen passed away Monday night, Dec. 5, 2016, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas, after a brief struggle with seizures and a stroke.
She was born March 5, 1926, in the Small Community, north of Edgewood, and was the daughter of John Roger Henson and Nina Johnson Henson. She was raised in the Small Community, where she attended elementary school before entering Edgewood ISD.
On Aug. 17, 1942, she married Thomas Vernon Gunter and they lived in the Bethlehem Community east of Wills Point prior to moving to Wills Point, where she resided today. To this union, three children were born, Sammy, Karon and Randall.
On March 8, 1963, T.V. died from complications of rheumatoid arthritis. Later on July 3, 1964, she married James Melvin Headen. During her nursing career of 33 years, she worked at Baker Clinic Hospital in Wills Point, Colonial Hospital in Terrell and retired from Crestwood Nursing Home in Wills Point.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, going out to eat and being with family and friends. She was a member of Busy “B” Club, Red Hat Ladies and the Church of Christ Quilters Club. She was lovingly called “Mother” by her children and Mamma Jean by all her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Wills Point Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Nina Henson, two husbands, T.V. Gunter and James M. Headen on Oct. 23, 2005; grandson, Ryan Greg Null on Jan. 13, 2007; four sisters, Ethylene Brewer, Cleone Coursey, Laverne Hudgens and Ina Smith; and two brothers, Mack Henson and Alvin Henson.
She is survived by two sons, Sammy Vernon Gunter and wife, Donna of Wills Point and Randall Gunter, of Wills Point; stepson, Mark Headen of Garland; daughter, Karon Null of Katy; seven grandchildren, Kim Wicks and husband, Tom, Krisann Stegall and husband, Gary, Sammi Dee Hogan and husband, Rob and Lauren McMillon and husband, David, John R. Gunter II, Jess Riley Gunter and Carla Levy and husband, Ben; six great-grandchildren, Blake Hill, Emily Levy, Brandi Voight, Tyler Wicks, Jordyn Mayne and Bradley McMillon; and five great-great grandchildren, Heidi Wicks, Jane Wicks, Lydia Voight, Thatcher Voight and Ryann Gleghorn.
Pallbearers were John Gunter, Jess Gunter, Tom Wicks, Tyler Wicks, Neal Travis, Jerry Travis and Ben Levy.
