Marching season to kick off in earnest
The Wills Point Tiger Band has set a high standard of excellence by annually producing one of the top bands in all of Texas regardless of classification.
During the 2015-’16 school year alone, the high school band earned a Superior rating at the UIL Region 3 4A Marching Contest, the Midlothian Marching Festival and the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests, won a silver medal at the Princeton Marching Contest and earned another UIL Sweepstakes Award.
Students and directors got back to work for the current school year Aug. 1, putting in long hours daily to ensure another banner year and lay the groundwork for another possible trip to the 4A State Marching Competition in San Antonio.
In an interview shortly after the start of marching practices, Tiger Band Director John Young stated, “We are working on marching and playing fundamentals as well as teaching our competitive marching band show. The band students are doing great…We rehearse to improve and get better each day. We try to provide us with a competitive show musically and visually that will show off our talented students. Our show for this year is called ‘Shattered’ and uses music from ‘Lux Eterna’ by Clint Mansell and ‘Sweet Dreams’ performed by Eurythmics. The theme of the show will be very evident throughout the production. I believe that it will be very entertaining for the audience.”
