Williams wins coaching debut

Wills Point engaged in a battle of teams that carry the tiger mascot Aug. 9, bringing home a three-set victory over Malakoff in their season opener. The win proved to be more than the usual season opener, also serving as the first win of the Chris Williams-era of Lady Tiger volleyball.

A balanced effort by newcomers and Wills Point varsity veterans carried the day from the first serve, The Lady Tigers got off to a fast start during the first set, turning a 0-1 deficit into an 8-3 lead that resulted in Malakoff taking a timeout to get their bearings.

Wills Point kept its foot on the accelerator from there, outclassing Malakoff in virtually every facet to sweep their way to a 3-0 victory.

The Wills Point varsity wasn’t the only team to enjoy a great start to their 2016 season, with the both the Lady Tiger JV and freshman teams also enjoying straight set victories.

Upcoming matches for Wills Point include the home opener Aug. 16 against Commerce, as well as the Hardman Varsity Tournament Aug. 19-20. Upcoming road dates include matches against perennial playoff qualifier Caddo Mills Aug. 23 and the Edgewood Varsity Tournament Aug. 25 and 27.
