Virginia Jones 1928-2016

Virginia Garrison Jones, 88, of Canton, died June 19, 2016.

A viewing for friends and family was held June 21, 2016, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.

Mrs. Garrison was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Dallas, to parents Charles Allen Garrison and Laura Helen Manigk. She grew up in Edgewood’s Small Community and later graduated at Woodrow Wilson High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Jones, April 7, 1991.

She was vice president of First National Bank in Longview and worked for Citizen’s National Bank in Kilgore for more than 30 years before officially retiring. She also taught banking and finance at Kilgore Junior College in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Her greatest accomplishment and her life’s work was genealogy as she was the president of the Van Zandt County Genealogy Society.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Longview and Terrell.

She is preceded in death by step-sons, Larry Jones and Carl Shelby.

She is survived by her husband, James Harold Jones; daughters, Linda Ann Wheeler of Hawkins and Kathy G. Wright and her husband Dick of Tyler; grandchildren, Eric Nichols and his wife Sallie of Longview, Sierra Wheeler of Carthage, Kath-Lin W. Fry and her husband Karl of Gilmer; great-grandchildren, Mason, Rehgan and Lawson Nichols, Trey Wheeler and Logan and Donavan Watley; nephews, Charles Reeves and his wife Michelle of Forney and John Reeves and his wife Linda of Fort Worth; step-daughter, Helen Shelby of Edgewood and step daughter-in-law, Patty Jones of Edgewood; step-son, James Ted Jones and his wife Molly of East Tawakoni; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
