Delmer Cole 1935-2016

Funeral services for Delmer Ray Cole, 80, of Mesquite, were held June 22, 2016, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point. 

Burial followed at White Rose Cemetery.

Mr. Cole died June 17, 2016, at Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham.

He was born in Honey Grove Nov. 7, 1935, to the late Hayden Cole and Etta Jane Cole.  He graduated from Honey Grove high School and attended the University of Houston.  He joined the United States Marines Corps and served as a military police officer, where he provided essential support for his commanding officers while stationed in Germany. 

He met Renate Charlotte Muller while he was stationed in Germany and they married June 27, 1959.  She preceded him in death on July 28, 1996. 

Following his military career, Mr. Cole worked in law enforcement with the Santa Anna, Dallas and Irving police departments and in loss prevention for Sears & Roebuck Company. 

He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Cole later married Cherie Swift in Las Vegas on Oct. 31, 1997, and they made their home in Mesquite. 

He enjoyed gardening projects and spending time at his farm in Fruitvale with his beloved dog, Molly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hayden and Etta Jane Cole; his wife, Renate Charlotte Muller Cole; and his brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Cherie Cole of Mesquite; daughter, Lillian Cole Hansen and her husband Mark of Arlington; granddaughters, Dr. Amy Lavery and her husband Nathan of Philadelphia and Codie Brooks and Grant of Hamilton; great grandchild, Benjamin Brooks and Abram Brooks; and Cherie’s children, Ricky Autry Jr. of Garland, Laura Autry of Frankston, Linda Kyle of Heath and Debra McCommas of Rockwall.
