Moorman and Singleton crews began moving into Wills Point Wednesday afternoon to start closure on the Iron Bridge Dam.  Crews will start the closure on July 1, according to information from the Sabine Water Authority office in Point.

The first Goodwill Get-Together this year will be held Tuesday night, June 21, at Myrtle Springs school house at 7:30 o’clock. Benny Simpson, who is with the Texas Research Foundation at Renner, will give a short talk after the supper. The, get-together, is sponsored by the agriculture committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Members of the Myrtle Springs Parent-Teachers Association will prepare and serve the food. (See newspaper for complete article.)

Open house at the Public Library was attended by more than 100 people Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 o’clock. In the receiving line were Mrs. B.L. Breckenridge and Mrs. Orville Hullum. Mrs. E.G. Smith, Jr. presided at the guest book, Mrs. W.H. Wingo, Jr., librarian, and Mrs. J.W. Bettis received membership. Refreshments of punch, cookies and coffee were served from a table with a white lace cloth. Presiding at the table were Mrs. J.E. Deen, Mrs. C.O. Scott, Mrs. T.L. Sadler, Mrs. B.W. Wilson and Mrs. George Boswell. Floral arrangements were sent by the Green House and Chitty’s Nursery.

Close to 200 guests attended the open house Sunday afternoon honoring Rev. and Mrs. H.G. McBride on their 50th wedding anniversary. The table, laid with a white lace cloth, was centered with an arrangement of yellow mums. The three tiered cake was decorated with yellow and white topped with a miniature bride and groom. Mrs. Jeff McBride, Mrs. Marie Holden and Mrs. Wayne McBride of Dallas presided at the table where they served cake and fruit punch from a crystal punch service. Mrs. McBride was presented with a corsage, of white carnations by her grandson, Bobby King, whom they have reared. Friends and relatives registered from Dallas, Garland, Greenville, Point, Edgewood, Emory and Terrell.

The Wills Point Lodge No. 422, AF&AM elected officers at a meeting held on June 9. New officers are Neil B. Cook, worshipful master; Edward T. Plessis, senior warden; D.O. Teel, Jr., junior warden; J. Leddy Johnson, treasurer; Charles C. Burnham, secretary and S.H. Read, tiler. The new officers will be installed July 19.

The younger girls softball team began its scheduled play last Friday night against Grand Saline, there, and tied its first game of the season, 11-11. Girls reporting for the team include: Paula Furrh, Judy Morgan, Jackie Deen, Laquita McCormick, Sandy Lay, Marie Wilson, Sharon Warner, Nelda Penny, Jeannie Blasingame, Sundy Mayfield and Linda Leach.

Little League Team No. 2 traveled to Canton Thursday night and won its first game of the season 18-1.  McBride pitched the first three innings, and Jimmy Laney pitched the fourth. The game was called at the end of the fourth due to Wills Point holding a 10-point lead over its opponents. Runs were made by McBride, Johnny Barrett, Bruce Monning, Billy Morgan, Gregg McKnight, Mickey Robertson, Jerry Barnett, and Dan Smith.

Sandia Base, Albuquerque N.M., Lt. Colonel and Mrs. William P. Asprey, announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan, to James Lewis Lea, of South Pasadena, Calif., with the wedding to occur in the fall.  Miss Asprey was born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, and has attended schools in Albuquerque during her father’s tour of military duty here. Lea is the son of Louis F. and the late Topaz Lea of South Pasadena and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Furrh. He is a graduate of Alhambra high school, and attended Pasadena junior college before entering the army, in which he is currently stationed at Sandia base.

Following funeral services at Roundup, Montana, on Tuesday, Miller Dennis, who died at the Veterans Hospital at Fort Harrison, Helena, Mont., was buried on June 15, in the soldiers cemetery on the Custer Battlefield in southeast Montana. Early in May, Mrs. Dennis, the former Damron Staton, who had been visiting in Canton, was called to her husband’s bedside in the Toole County Hospital at Shelby, Montana, and has been in constant attendance since that time. Mr. Dennis was transferred to the, veterans, hospital and seemed to be improving, until the end came unexpectedly last Friday June 10. Mr. Dennis is survived by his wife and one brother, William Dennis, of Metaire, La.

Rev. and Mrs. J.E. Barrett of Edgewood, who were married on June 19, 1910, will be honored by their children Sunday on their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at their home from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Both Rev. and Mrs. Barrett were born and raised in the Edgewood community. Mrs. Barrett is the former Miss Rittie Pickens daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Pickens. Rev. Barrett is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barrett. (See newspaper for complete article.)

Mr. and Mrs. L.H. McKnight, of Edgewood honored their granddaughter, Miss Carolyn Jean McKnight, bride-elect, and Jerry Duckett, Saturday evening June 11, at 7 o’clock, with a dinner at their home. The couple will be united in marriage at the Wills Point First Baptist church Sunday afternoon, June 26 at 3 o’clock.

Bright Star: Mr. and Mrs. Mark White of Commerce and children spent Saturday with his mother, Mrs. Lillie White. Joe Adams spent last week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Adams, of Edgewood. Mr. and Mrs. Olan Furrh and family spent Sunday in Fruitvale visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Burrows.

Mrs. Cathryn Boriack born September 2nd 1919 in Texarkana, passed away June 9, 1960, in Terrabella, Calif., after an illness of several months. Interment was in White Rose cemetery, under the direction of a Dallas funeral home. Mrs. Boriack is survived by her husband, Al Boriack, 2 daughters, Jill Boriack and Cindy Lou Beisner, two sons Michael and Ralph Beisner Jr. all of Terrabella, Calif., foster parents Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Peek of Dallas; one brother Bill Wallace, of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Austin of Texarkana, and Mrs. Christine Fitzpatrick of Galveston, and a host of other relatives.  (See newspaper for names of pallbearers.)
