Roy Lee Kidd 1924-2016

Funeral services for Roy Lee Kidd, 91, of Edgewood, were held May 21, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Kidd died May 18, 2016.

He was born on June 14, 1924, in Pilot Point, to parents the Rev. George Kidd and Gedna Brashear Kidd. He was raised in Grand Saline and attended Grand Saline High School. He worked at his father’s general store in Edgewood before joining the Army Air Corp.

He married Christine Dunbar on Dec. 14, 1947. They made their home in Edgewood and spent 68 wonderful years together.

He worked at Morton Salt and retired in 1984.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edgewood. He volunteered for the Edgewood Fire Department for over 30 years, was a very strong supporter in the Edgewood School District and even served on the school board. You could always find him, “the oldest Kidd in town” (310) at Pine and Main (Dairy Queen) and he was probably talking about his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Gedna Kidd; daughter, Julie Manette Kidd; grandson, George Michael Wallace Jr. and son-in-law, George Wallace Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Kidd of Edgewood; daughters, Linda Wallace of Ponder, Dena Kidd of Amarillo and Mary Lea Messer of Tyler; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
