Season closes for Tiger netters

The Wills Point Tiger tennis program once again proved itself to be one of the best in the state regardless of classification throughout the 2015-’16 school year, adding multiple individual and team titles to its resume throughout the Fall and Spring seasons.
The most recent chapter for the program closed in College Station May 16-17, with the Tiger tennis team matching a school record set just last year by qualifying five players to compete in the UIL State Tennis Tournament.
En route to qualifying for the State Tennis Tournament, Wills Point tennis players also broke a school record by winning the Regional title in three separate divisions: Kolton Adams and Patrick Petzold in boys doubles, Chase Daniell and Kelsey James in mixed doubles and Cassidy Wilcoxson in girls singles.
Wills Point came close to breaking the school record for state qualifiers, with the mixed doubles team of Kameron McEnturff and Claire Hiler and the girls doubles team of Kaitlin Perez and Maddie Baker finishing fourth overall at the Regional Tournament.
Class 4A State Tournament results for Wills Point athletes included:
-Kolton Adams/Patrick Petzold def. Dallas Elmore/Alex Smith of Graham, 6-1, 6-4; lost to Jason Loyd/Michael Loyd of Groesbeck, 6-1, 6-0
-Chase Daniell/Kelsey James lost to Kel Craft/Calista Silva of Wharton, 3-6, 6-1, 6-5
-Cassidy Wilcoxson lost to Kaitlyn Hathorn of Abilene Wylie, 6-3, 6-2
State championships in 2016 were won by Maxwell Tadvick of Abilene Wylie in boys singles, Parker Phillips and Sitman Wainwright of Fredericksburg in boys doubles, Hannah Boubel of Fredericksburg in girls singles, Carrsyn Gregor and Kendall Jablonowski of Bellville in girls doubles and Spencer Lin and Ashley Smyser of Abilene Wylie in mixed doubles.
