Athletic department hosts annual Spring Banquet

The Wills Point High School athletic department hosted its annual Spring Athletic Banquet May 9, honoring the contributions and sacrifices made throughout the year by student-athletes.

The evening included recognitions of athletes at the freshman, JV and varsity level, and also featured several yearend awards being presented by members of the Tiger coaching staff to athletes participating in basketball, powerlifting, softball, baseball, track, golf, tennis.

Additional awards and recognitions included the Kim Wright Award, the Tiger Pride Award, the Gold Medal Award. Student trainers were also recognized for their contributions throughout the year.

Award winners included:

-Girls Basketball: Sierra Spindle, Offensive POY; Meredith Edwards, Defensive POY; Emily Smith, MVP

-Boys Basketball: Tanner Wallace, Offensive POY; Robert Smith, Defensive POY; Doug Sheldon, MVP

-Powerlifting: Abbie Phillips and Andrew Hardman, Lifters of the Year

-Softball: Kamree Clark, Offensive POY; Sierra Spindle, Defensive POY; Lori Ellington, MVP

-Track: Erin King, Abbie Phillips and Joey Paddock, MVP

-Golf: Hannah Caldwell and Doug Sheldon, Players of the Year

-Tennis: Kelsey James and Cassidy Wilcoxson, Girls POY; Kolton Adams and Patrick Petzold, Boys POY; Kaitlin Perez and Nash Pendleton, Most Improved; Maddie Brown and Kameron McEnturff, Whatever It Takes Award

-Gold Medal Award (State Qualifiers): Shelbi Walser, Kolton Adams, Chase Daniell, Patrick Petzold, Kelsey James and Cassidy Wilcoxson

-Kim Wright Award: Gaby Gonzalez

-Tiger Pride Award: Sierra Spindle and Logan Morris

With the Wills Point Tiger baseball team still active in the playoffs, Coach Todd Staley opted to recognize his team as a whole without presenting individual awards until the conclusion of the season. Tiger baseball award winners will be published in the Wills Point Chronicle at a later date.
