Area church to host 19th annual Missions Conference
Followers of Christ Church in Wills Point will host a four-day missions conference later this month. The event will feature pastors from the area as well as from other parts of the world.
Followers of Christ Church, located on Highway 751 in Wills Point, will be the host once again for an annual gathering of pastors and missionaries from around the world for a four-day conference May 25 through 28.
Begun in 1997 by founding Pastor David Bridges, the vision has been that every church become “missions-minded.”
This year’s theme is “The Final Harvest.”
Missions Coordinator and Missionary Donna Elms and Assistant Dawn Blanco are heading up the plans for meals, housing, transportation to and from the airport, etc. Associate Pastor Heath and Katherine Gregory, along with Jeff and Dawn Blanco will take on the kitchen duty again this year for every meal (which is offered free) during the four-day meetings.
Special guest speakers include Pastor Tom Oothappan from India and Howard Jackson from Waco. They will be sharing their experiences on the mission field.
Visitors are welcome to attend, organizers said.
All of the guest missionaries will be invited to share their stories, some involving persecution. Because FOCC Missionary Colleen Young has spent time in Africa on a mission to Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, the church fellowship hall will be decorated with fabrics from Africa and India and several of the women will wear African dashikis for Thursday’s meetings in keeping with the spirit of the conference.
Wednesday, May 25, will be the first service, starting at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome to the missionaries.
